We Are Southern California

Preservation isn’t something any video game publisher is particularly good at. Rights and licenses expire and beloved games never make their way onto modern consoles. Video games are not a scholarly pursuit either. Universities don’t have video game history classes. Preservation of the classics fall on the community. It is the sheer love and passion of the community for these games that keep them alive. Some do it for profit, others do it for glory, and some do it because not a single other person will do it. Here in Southern California, you will find some of the most dedicated and passionate gamers who dedicate themselves to the integrity of the classics while looking forward to the future.

I have been playing video games literally all my life, starting with the Sega Master System I got for my first birthday. Video games to me are as integral to my life as air and water. And although I am nowhere near the level of talent my fellow writers have for fighting games, I make up for it in my love for them. Street Fighter, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Guilty Gear. These are the games that keep my blood running. So I’m here to share my love of the classics to you and give you my insight into this hotbed of the fighting game community.

Here in Southern California, our scene culminates in the fall with So Cal Regionals. You can look forward to coverage here of the event. And I am also actively searching for players who want to be featured on their way to SCR and give insight into their lives as they make their way to the big event. You can find my e-mail at the end of this article to contact me and be featured here. My coverage will also include small scale events and coverage of local arcades.

While our arcades may come and go, you would be hard pressed to find more dedicated players than the ones who make up the Southern California FGC. We keep the classics going, because there is always something more to learn. A great game will always reveal more depth if you keep searching. The community keeps great games alive through their love and devotion, and the players here are some of the most exceptional in the world.

If you are in the Southern California region and would like to be featured on this site, please contact me at my e-mail address below. I am looking for players who are on their way to SCR and would be willing to share their hard work as they make their way to the tournaments.
